Smoking Popes – The Riot Fest band that wasn’t (Episode 887)

This wasn’t the interview I’d set out to have with Smoking Popes frontman Josh Caterer. Smoking Popes were set to play an early slot on Day Three of Riot Fest; unfortunately the weather had other plans for the band.

Flash flooding in the Chicago area forced Riot Fest organizers to push back the door time from 1pm – 3pm. As a result, a handful of earlier bands were 86’d from the line up, including the Popes.

I ran into Josh as he got the text to say that a force majeure had forced them off the schedule. Shortly after that, we sat down for an interview, three hours earlier than originally planned.

While the weather thwarted the Popes (their legion of fans), we can feel excited about what’s ahead, including lots more new music!

I love having Josh on the show; I’m a fan of his music and him personally.
